For almost 50 years, a monument measuring almost 4 metres in height and weighing 4 tonnes, depicting Polish and Soviet soldiers marching arm in arm, stood next to the Strzelce town hall. With the winds of change blowing, this symbol of friendship between the two nations became redundant. In 1991, the concrete colossus was dismantled. Initially, it lay in the bushes, under the fence of a piggery on 1 Maja Street, and was later moved to a shelter next to the municipal greenery office building.
